What Does Farm Insurance Cover?

If you own a farm or an agriculture business, farm insurance is something you may want to look into. Farm insurance covers many different aspects of your farming business, helping to protect you against unexpected events. Here are a few of the different things that farm insurance helps to cover.

Your Crops

One of the key elements that farm insurance covers is your crops. Farm insurance is designed to protect you against unforeseen problems with any crops that you harvest. This may include weather-related disasters that can destroy your crops, such as floods, freezes or droughts. It may also protect your crops against pest infestations that can be damaging to your crops. Some policies will only cover your crops when they are planted, while others may also include problems that occur with your crops after they have been harvested.

Buildings on Your Farm

If you own a farm, you likely have many different types of buildings on your farm. You may have silos to hold your crops after they have been harvested. You may have barns to hold animals and livestock. And you have have storage buildings to house your machinery and equipment. Homeowners insurance will typically cover the building that you reside in on your farm, but not all of these additional buildings. Farm insurance helps to cover these buildings and may also cover items that are stored inside of the buildings.

Your Farming Equipment

The last key element that farm insurance typically covers is your farming equipment. As a farmer, you likely have many pieces of expensive equipment designed to make your life easier on the farm. This may include items such as tractors and seeders. These pieces of machinery are costly, and as such, you want to insure them against loss, theft, vandalism and damage. Farm insurance will help to cover them if they are stolen, vandalized, involved in an accident or if they are damaged in a storm, such as a hurricane, flood or hail storm.

Different farm insurance policies cover different things and have different coverage levels. As such, if you are interested in purchasing farming insurance, it is important to carefully read through policies and understand them to help find the one that is right for you. A great insurance agent can sit down with you, explain the differences among the policies and help you find the one that is the best fit for your needs.
